September 8, 2007 - Iowa Hereford Breeders Tour, Northwest, IA The tour will begin at 10 AM at Dr. Mark and Jan Carlson of Cherokee. In addition to viewing cattle, Dr. Britt Carlson is a certified ET, UGC and CPEC Feedlot Ultrasound Technician and will be giving a demonstration of ultrasound and discussing it's value for your herd. A noon lunch and meeting will be held at our second stop; the home of Jay and Amy Solsma of Sanborn. A great lunch will be served for a small fee (please call so we can get a head count for lunch). The Solsma's raise Herefords and club calves of all breeds and we will tour their show barn. Also available at the Solsma's are a 4 acre corn maze, 4 acre pumpkin patch, country store and more. Johnson Hereford Farm of Milford, Iowa, and home to Jack and Lynne will be our last stop on the tour. The Johnson's raise Horned Herefords and are well known as the Birthplace of the "Golden Asters". If you choose to stay in beautiful northwest Iowa for the weekend there are plenty of entertainment options for you. The Worlds Greatest County Fair - the Clay County Fair - is hosting their 90th fair September 8-16. If you have never been to the Clay County Fair now is the time to visit. The Clay County Fair features the greatest and most complete display of farm equipment and ag products in the nation. Tractors, combines, seed, livestock supplies, tools, accessories and many other agribusiness products make the fair a one stop shopping mall for agriculture. The 4-H and District Breeding Heifer and Prospect Calf beef show will be held on Sunday, September 9. Hotel accommodations are available in the Okoboji or Spirit Lake area.
